There probably won’t be another concert like this for a long time – judging by the sweltering crowd, high level of anticipation and powerful crowd responses that resonated through out the star studded line up at the 8th leg of Star Music Trek which held at the Abeokuta Sports Complex, Abeokuta, Ogun State on July 28, 2013.

The event was compered by hilarious stand up comedian, Laff Up with a surprise appearance by comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka who both ensured that there wasn’t a dull moment through out the night.

Juke Box, 2010 winners of Star Quest, was a delight to watch as they performed some of the hits that won them the coveted 2010 Star Quest Crown. The melody makers are fast becoming a crowd favorite, winning a hard earned place in their fans’ hearts.

After a long break from The Trek -since the first leg in FESTAC on June 8 -Sound Sultan came well prepared to get the crowd dancing first as he dished out many of his popular hits accompanied by his live band.

For 45 minutes, cheered on by the appreciative crowd, Dr SID’s motley selection of songs kept the crowd going, fuelling anticipation of even more thrilling performances from other artistes during the concert.

Accompanied briefly by fast rising rap artiste XBUSTA, Dr Sid’s fast paced act was another crowd winner.

And if the crowd was extra appreciative of the artiste perhaps it was because his fans knew that they would have just one more chance to meet him on The Trek in 2013; the multitalented act has confirmed that he will be performing at the Grand Finale on August 10, 2013.

There’s no doubt that fast rising rap star Olamide has an extremely promising future as he stormed the stage to remind his fans why his popularity has waxed stronger ever since releasing his debut album in 2011.

The young artiste who is gradually carving a dominant niche for himself in the Nigerian music industry gave the performance of a lifetime, with eager fans -who had been waiting patiently for him- rushing from the every angle of the grounds and surging toward the stage.

The rap star could not have asked for a more loyal army as the crowd ensured they kept him weaving back and forth on the center stage and down the ramp, churning out verse after verse to the delight of his fans.

D’banj proved the ultimate crowd pleaser, placing his set in the crowd’s hands and urging them to ask for any song they wanted him to sing.

His aim, he claimed, was to please, as he sang every song his fans requested, bringing back many fresh memories right from his Mo’hits days.

Popular fuji crooner Obesere, utilized his 45 minutes with a dramatic performance of some of his greatest songs. Accompanied by his gorgeously dressed dancers, the artiste was a fitting crown to an exciting night.

The Star Music Trek has visited FESTAC, Lokoja, Owerri, Enugu Nnewi, Aba, Nnewi and Asaba in its national 10-city-10-week tour with thousands of music fans entertained across the country.

Star Music Trek will also set to berth in Agege and Surulere, Lagos State.

A grand finale of the music tour will hold at the National Stadium, Surulere in Lagos on August 10, 2013.

Hakym is an artist that always look out for fresh talented producers to work with, it has been said that the Lamba king as he's popularly called often leaves his studio to tour other studios in different locations no matter the area. Maybe this restless behaviour might come to an end now as a result of this unfortunate incident that took place in Festac, yesterday 30th july.


Sources close to the act revealed that he had pre informed a producer in Festac named Micon that he would be working with him yesterday, and indeed showed up to his studio in festac at about 3pm with his entourage. About 3hours into the session, a gang of 6 Area boys barged into the studio speaking loudly in yoruba.

According to eye witnesses, they were shouting that Hakym should prostrate before them and settle them, according to his PA Hakym was so shocked and angry that he couldn't say a word. His PA named Olamuss who tried to calm the angry touts was given a sound slap. This caused an uproar and the touts started threatening to beat everybody up and destroy the studio. Fortunately, the noise attracted Hakym's mobile police who was sitting in the car at the car park parked behind the studio, he rushed in with his gun threatening to shoot. But the area boys managed to escape except for one that was caught.
The producer, Micon later told us that Hakym was so scared that he refused to finish the session. The poor boy just ran into his car in fear and asked the driver to zoom off leaving his mobile police to tend to the caught suspect who is presently in police custody. Lol The Lamba king is scared!

Wande Coal part ways with Mavin Records?

It seems there’s about to be another big artist leaving a big record label for a solo career on the Nigerian music scene. Even though no official word has been heard from both camps, the rumor mill has been churning out – ‘Wande Coal will be leaving Mavin Records’

The suspicions started brewing when Wande Coal‘s record label imprint, Black Diamond Entertainment was part of the introduction for his new video featuring Don Jazzy, “The Kick”

But, we couldn’t quite jump to any conclusions of a split yet because Mavin Records was boldly imprinted on the video right after.

Yesterday, tongues began to wag again when Wande Coal‘s new single, “Kilaju” leaked online prematurely even though it had been available on MTN caller tunes weeks before.

Some rumors began to fly that Don Jazzy not producing “Kilaju” was reason enough to suspect a split. Easily, those can be found to be unsubstantiated as in fact, since Mavin Records started, Don Jazzy‘s artistes have been ‘allowed’ to use other producers. As such, it wasn’t a big shock that he was collaborating with Star Boy Entertainment‘s Maleek Berry, who also produced “My Way” that dropped a few months ago.

Having his own record label imprint was not a reason to suspect a split either, as other industry heavyweights have their own imprints. M.I Abaga has his own Loopy Music imprint while still signed as a Chocolate City artiste; and even within the Mavin camp, their first lady Tiwa Savage has her 323 Entertainment imprint. Tiwa Savage’s debut album, “Once Upon A Time” was released ias a collaboration between both 323 Entertainment and Mavin Records.

So, why are tongues wagging? Last night, Wande Coal‘s team was ‘forced’ to release an official mastered version of “Kilaju” prematurely as a leaked unfinished version was getting viral.

There was no mention of Mavin on the cover art so does that mean Wande Coal may be leaving Mavin records? Possibly. There’s a saying – “when you assume, you make an ass out of you and me” and as such, I wouldn’t advice any one of us to jump the gun until we get an official statement. But, with Don Jazzy and the Mavin online PR team keeping very quiet about the new song, I think we already know what is about to happen.

Nonetheless, does Wande Coal have any real reason to leave ‘the dream team’? A lot of people are well aware that Wande Coal‘s talent had been ‘dormant’ for about three years before he started releasing music again under Mavin. And, even then, since Wande Coal and Don Jazzy have been in cahoots, he’s only released one full-length album, ‘Mushin2Mohits’ back in 2009. From the grapevine, reports have it that Wande Coal is the chief songwriter in the fold and has been behind the scenes crafting hits for the likes of D’Banj, Tiwa Savage and his other label mates. Has Wande Coal said ‘enough is enough’? Has he decided to follow the footsteps of numerous others who left their record labels for indie solo careers?
